Kidbrooke Carnival 2024

20 Years of Community Celebration

Kidbrooke Carnival marked a joyful milestone: 20 years since TARU Arts hosted their first community carnival in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. Since that first parade in 2004, TARU has remained dedicated to bringing people together through creativity, cultural celebration, and community pride.

In July 2024, TARU returned to where it all began—organising Kidbrooke Carnival as part of the Royal Greenwich Festivals. It was the first carnival in the area since the regeneration of the Ferrier Estate into Kidbrooke Village, and a powerful reminder of how far the community has come.

The event was funded by the Royal Borough of Greenwich, supported by the Berkeley Group, and brought to life through partnerships with Wingfield Primary School and local groups. TARU Arts also held free drop-in sessions at the Kidbrooke Community Hub in the weeks leading up to the event to create props and costumes featured in the event. The celebration featured:

The Community Parade: A colourful procession filled with vibrant costumes, infectious rhythms, and joyful dancing, celebrating the diversity of Kidbrooke.

Live Showcases (at Kidbrooke Community Hub due to adverse weather on the day!):  A stage for local and international talent, featuring music, dance, and performances that reflected the rich cultural mix of the area.

Family-Friendly Activities: From creative workshops to interactive activities, there was something for all ages to enjoy throughout the day.

"We are incredibly proud of the journey we have embarked on over the past two decades," said Rudy Rocha, Artistic Director of TARU Arts. "The Kidbrooke Carnival is more than just an event—it’s where our journey began. It’s a celebration of the strength, creativity, and unity of this community."
