TARU Carnival 2008
The carnival returned to Kidbrooke in 2008, hosted by TARU Arts and featured the Scrap Kingdom Party, and artists from TARU who were supported by a grant from the Arts Council and Thomas Tallis School, and worked with several local primary schools and community groups for three weeks to create carnival costumes, samba drums and recycling puppets. The various groups met in Sutcliffe Park, where a community carnival parade began at midday. Winding its way through the Ferrier Estate, collecting local residents along the way, the parade eventually arrived in Teleman Square, where the crowd and participants were treated to drumming and dancing, fresh fruit, a welcome drink, and a capoeira performance. The day was a huge success thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of the artists and participants. That was the last time TARU worked with the local community delivering the carnival until returning last year to celebrate its 20th anniversary and to bring the Kidbrooke Carnival back to life with the support of the local community.
